Brief History
The ALSA International Board 2009 – 2010, led by its President Mr Dimas Nanda Raditya, sought to formalise an alumni association for ALSA at the international level. Upon obtaining the unanimous approval from the General Assembly at the Annual Forum Seoul in August 2010, ALUMNAS (ALSA Alumni Association), the predecessor of ALSA Alumni, was officially recognized as the alumni counterpart of ALSA.
ALUMNAS was created as an independent organization with several objects such as (a) to bring together former ALSA members and others who have been part of or who have supported the ALSA network and structure or who wish to do so; (b) to enhance the exchange of knowledge and experiences; and (c) to create an maintain personal contacts between former ALSA members.
As subsequent ALSA International Boards had more pressing matters to prioritize during their respective terms, ALUMNAS remained dormant till early 2021. ALUMNAS found its way to being a key initiative that the ALSA International Board 2020 – 2021 hoped to push for. The 2020-2021 International Board managed to reach out to the founding members of ALUMNAS and more recent alumni who shared the passion of having an alumni association. After rounds of discussions and sharing by the founding members of ALUMNAS, it was decided that ALUMNAS was to be rebranded as ALSA Alumni, which would be led by Mr Lim Boon Tiong. A Memorandum of Understanding was entered into on 23 January 2021 by ALSA Alumni and the ALSA International Board, setting out broadly the purposes of ALSA Alumni and areas of cooperation, which mirrored what the founding members of ALUMNAS had in mind more than a decade ago. The current ALSA Alumni Board hopes to carry on the good work of its predecessors and bring ALSA Alumni to greater heights.
